Job Description: Advanced Virology Inc. is seeking an experienced virologist to support production of high-quality viral products for use in downstream R&D and product manufacturing. The Lab Scientist will lead the design of reverse genetics-based plasmid virus production systems, stock virus production, assay development, process optimization, and quality control within our manufacturing and R&D pipelines. This is a hands-on, senior laboratory position well-suited for scientists with expertise in virology, molecular biology, and biological manufacturing workflows.
The ideal candidate is scientifically curious, highly independent, capable of supervising lab technicians and comfortable operating in a fast-paced startup environment. They will contribute to experimental design, coordinate the work of junior staff, ensure data integrity, and help drive operational excellence.
Responsibilities:
· Design and implement reverse genetics systems for multiple virus families.
· Lead virus stock production and QC testing for custom and catalog virus orders.
· Design and optimize molecular and virology assays (plaque assay, qPCR, RT-qPCR, genome sequencing, etc.).
· Develop and validate QC testing workflows for product releases.
· Analyze data and prepare reports for internal use and external customers.
· Provide technical oversight and training to lab technicians and student workers.
· Maintain and troubleshoot laboratory equipment; support process improvements to enhance throughput and reproducibility.
· Uphold rigorous lab safety standards and biosafety protocols.
· Contribute towards the company’s R&D and product development strategy.
Qualifications:
· PhD in Virology or Molecular Biology.
· Candidates must have the capability and track record of designing and using viral reverse genetics systems and plasmids.
· Demonstrated experience with virus production (propagation, titration, molecular detection, etc.).
· Strong proficiency in standard molecular biology techniques (PCR, cloning, sequencing workflows, nucleic acid extraction, etc.).
· Experience in assay development, validation, or biomanufacturing preferred.
· Strong data analysis, documentation, and communication skills.
· Ability to work independently, manage multiple priorities, and thrive in a startup environment.
