Description: This virus is a reassortant influenza virus containing the HA and NA proteins from the influenza A/Victoria/4897/2022 (H1N1)pdm09 strain and all other genetic components from the master donor virus strain A/Puerto Rico/8/1934. It is a candidate virus for the H1N1 component of the trivalent egg-based influenza vaccine for the 2025-2026 northern hemisphere flu season.

Strain History: Influenza A/Victoria/4897/2022 (H1N1)pdm09 was identified from a human case in Victoria, Australia in 2022. The genomic sequence is available in the GISAID EpiFlu database under accession number EPI_ISL_16714268. Influenza A/Puerto Rico/8/1934 (H1N1) was isolated from a human in Puerto Rico in 1934. The genomic sequence is available by segment in NCBI (Segment 1/PB2; Segment 2/PB1; Segment 3/PA; Segment 4/HA; Segment 5/NP; Segment 6/NA; Segment 7/M2, M1; Segment 8/NEP, NS1).
